The municipality of Agno is located in the Malcantone region of canton Ticino. This region is particularly appealing to hikers and bikers and marked by picturesque Ticino villages with traditional stone houses, narrow lanes, rustic grotti (Ticino taverns) as well as historic churches and quaint squares. One product, namely chestnuts, has provided the main source of income here for centuries and the ancient chestnut groves are still cultivated today. Thick, gnarled trees, their bases standing in a brown-yellow carpet of ferns, transform the mountain valleys into a park landscape. The «Sentiero del castagno» at Arosio leads from grove to grove and provides information on Malcantone chestnut cultivation. Besides the wonderful surrounding areas, Agno features a well renowned lido, several camp sites and water sports facilities. Near the house guests can find numerous bars and restaurants, grocery shops as well as other services such as banks, hairdressers and the post office. Close to Agno (15 minutes by train or car) is Lugano: the largest city in the Ticino holiday region is not only Switzerland’s third most important financial centre as well as a congress, banking and business centre, but also a town of parks, flowers, villas and sacral buildings. Lugano offers the advantages of a cosmopolitan city combined with the cachet of a small town with a Mediterranean flair. Guests can drive to the property where 1 parking space is available free of charge. Alternatively the nearest station is Agno (Ferrovia Lugano Ponte Tresa FLP), which is located just a 5 minutes walk from the house. Please note that a tourist tax of 2.00 CHF per person per night is payable on arrival. Please note that during Christmas, New Year, Easter and the summer season we prefer bookings of minimum 7 nights.
